How do you get more likes on your FaceBook page?

Facebook-skins-post-1024x1024This is more of a question than an answer.

I have a few FaceBook pages – I have my Ashwood Llamas one where we currently have 261 likes and I have my Multiheat one where we have a 143 likes – and having asked all my friends to like, tweet the occasional “please like my page” request, I seem to have stalled in getting more likes.

I know I could pay to get more likes but that does seem to be an expensive way to acquire likes and whether they will turn into customers only time will tell. With a minimum budget for promoting our products it seems to me that we need to get some sort of help from fellow business networkers to ask their friends and so on.

I have noticed over the last month that others liking my posts and occasionally sharing my posts has helped tremendously in getting my insights & reach way above the number of likes, but sadly no additional likes.

This month through to the end of April on our Multiheat page we are going to offer a prize to one of our likers at random – a decent prize – and the aim is to get our number of likes to 250. So, if you fancy winning an electric outdoor infrared patio heater (RRP £219.99 but currently on special offer at £79.99) please go ahead and like our page.

I would also like to hear your ideas for increasing the number of likes to your business page – is there a good trick that I am missing?

Average Broadband Speeds 12Mbps – not here!

I was catching up with the tech news on the BBC website this morning when I came across this article.  Knowing that broadband and getting superfast broadband in North Devon is a big issue to some I though I would check out my speed just to see how we compare to the so called ‘average’.

The results that I got were:

Broadband speed dial

My broadband speed today.

As you can see this is a massive difference to the figures according to Ofcom so it would be interesting to run a test again if and when we get superfast broadband to rural North Devon.

Working with some of our customers, our speed is actually quite high for around here as a customer just a few miles away is getting less than half the speed we are. What speeds are you getting? Are you getting anything near the average?

Facebook for business – are you doing it right!

I was browsing through facebook last night and someone had posted the following:-

That’s the 3rd person I know of in as many weeks who has just had access to their personal FB profile removed because they were using it to promote their business stuff (and they weren’t overly promotional nor using it exclusively for business either, as far as I can tell).

If you post *anything* that promotes your business/offerings on your personal profile, be warned…if you lose access to your personal profile, you lose access to any groups you run, are part of and more. And there’s not an easy way to appeal/get access back either.

Now might be a good time to re-evaluate!

I know that here in North Devon this has been discussed before and here are two articles written by others on the same subject – Naomi Chapman wrote this blog on her website Facebook Profiles and Pages and Nik Barrie wrote this blog his website Converting your profile into a Page.

So, please, if you are promoting your business on Facebook, do it as a business “Page”, not as a personal profile!

There are people here in the NDBA who will be more than happy to help guide you through the process, as I am sure Naomi & Nik would to!

Don’t get suspended and ruin loads of hard work!

Do you blog?

Last year the North Devon Business Alliance (NDBA) ran an Award evening and one of the best contested Awards was the Blogging Award, which was won by Elaine of Convallis Software. It is great to see her blogging on her own blog-site as well as continuing to contribute to Devon Social Media & here on NDBA’s website!

Blogging is a great way to talk about your expertise without actually trying to “sell” what you do, and with many aspects of marketing yourself works best if you blog regularly!

Here on the NDBA website we encourage our members to blog as often as they wish – a member benefit – but surprisingly few do! Why, well probably they have their own website that needs regular blogging and they see this website as a competitor to their own website, or they are just too busy to find the time to add another website to their already busy schedule!

It is worth the effort though, this website appears quite high in google listings for relevant content, the strange mix of blogs from different members keeps the interest going and draws readers in that may other wise not head over in this direction.

So, members, go on have a go, not a member, well it only costs £15 a year to be a member, and you can blog away to your hearts content!

Use the power of sharing on social media

People talk about the viral effect of social media, but what is it and how can it help your business?

That’s what we’ll be discussing in our NDBA two-hour workshop on Etiquette and good practice in social media sharing at B My Office in Barnstaple, North Devon on Friday 28 September.

How can you persuade your followers to like and share your messages so that hundreds or thousands of people see them?

What do you have to do to become part of a community that shares and supports each other?

Is it acceptable to ask people to share your content?

These are all questions we’ll answer so that you can start sharing and be shared.

The workshop runs from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and costs just £15 per person (NDBA members £10).

Why not sign up for the morning workshop on Website product shots and photo optimisation and book in for our networking lunch on the same day? Members can book all three for £30. Non-members can book all three for £45 and enjoy one-year membership included which will give discounted rates on future workshops and events.

To book your place(s), call 01271 344545.
